Maya Rotstein - CCI Director 2024/25

Maya Rotstein is a second-year Master of Global Affairs candidate at Munk, specializing in Global Markets and Environmental Studies. She completed her undergraduate degree in International Development at McGill University. Maya currently carries out research regarding innovation in emerging tech sectors in Canada and encouraging collaboration with governments to boost economic growth, as well as tax policy reform for public service delivery in sub-Saharan Africa. Maya interned this summer at Rally Assets, an impact investing firm. Her research interests involve mobilizing increased private sector investment for climate change mitigation, and is interested in a career in sustainability and ESG advisory. In her spare time, she enjoys any activity outdoors, whether running, hiking, travelling, or swimming. 

Alicia Wang - CCI Director 2024/25

Alicia Wang is a second-year Master of Public Policy candidate at the Munk School of Global Affairs & Public Policy. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Toronto. Alicia has led research initiatives on public sector workforce strategies, focusing on talent optimization through data-driven insights and collaboration across jurisdictions. This past summer, she interned at the Ontario Public Service within the Treasury Board Secretariat. Alicia's professional interests lie in policy advisory, consulting, and driving organizational change. In her free time, she enjoys arts and crafts, working out, and playing board games with friends.

Management Consulting is the practice of supporting organizations to improve their performance, operating primarily through the analysis of existing organizational problems and the development of plans for improvement. Public Sector management consulting applies this same principle for all orders of government, crown corporations, extra-governmental organizations and not-for-profits. 

Master of Public Policy and Master of Global Affairs students can provide management consultancies with many of the competencies they look for, including: expertise and training  in organizational change management assistance; process analysis; strategic implementation; strategy development; and operational improvement services. The MPP and MGA programs have many alumni in the management consulting world!

Public Affairs Consulting generally refers to the building and development of relations between an client firms and organization with politicians, governments and other decision-makers. Given the broad nature of public affairs, what exactly the industry encapsulates remains a point of discussion. While often equated with lobbying, this is usually only a small part of what a public affairs practitioner might do. Other typical functions include research, strategy planning and providing advice.

Given the field of study and breadth of skills required,  many Munk alumni have gone on to successful careers in public affairs consulting.
